The 1242 FIRE engine will be discontinued sometimes next year in favour of the new 2 cylinder turbo unit.
Supposedly the new engine will be 20% more powerful while returning 10% more to the gallon.
One thing new to the engine is the solenoid controlled inlet valves. It is rumoured that the technology will in the foreseable future be implemented into the 1.4 FIRE units too.

Will the 2 cylinder unit be a FIRE, or based on a new range of engines?

Will the 2 cylinder unit be a FIRE, or based on a new range of engines? It is a totally new unit. It will have to prove itself before anything can be said, unlike the FIRE engine.
