Can the diesel block be converted to petrol by swaping heads only? Surely the crank and pistons on the diesel would be far superior for a forced induction petrol setup?
Or is there a problem with piston shape or something which negatively effects spark ignition?

Diesel pistons are quite a bit different and they are much heavier than the petrol ones too. The other problem you would have is fitting issues.
In a short while the 1368 turbos are availble and they will be the easier choice.

Considering diesels are self igniting I figured the block would be tougher.
Thanks.

The 1368 turbo will be awesome in a light car or any half light car, come to that. Shame is the 1368 n/a's seem to be coming slowly available. These have been on road cars now for around 3 years. How long will the 1368 turbo take to get in the modifying pipeline??

Many years I would say, the punto gt engines are old hat now and to find a good one has always been a problem for reasonable money, its well sort after....
