hi, I have just buy a 1990 panda 4x4. I have already searched on the net but found nothing. I would like to change my engine which is a 1000 cc non injection and I would like to know which one in fiat engines can i put in it with more power without any adaptation. Especially concerning the 1.1 SPI FIRE, 1.2 MPI 8V, 1.2MPI 16V, 1300 or 1400 turbo from UNO et 1300 ie from Y10 gt. I would like to know also if somebody had informations about the maximum torque that the gearbox can receive from the engine...
Thanks a lot for information because i m lost !!!

I have done one for a friend a couple of years ago with a 1242 FIRE, which was before the 1368 FIRE was available.
Slight exhaust adaptation is needed. Otherwise it is a straight swap.

Thanks you for your answer. Imporant step for me. I would like to know if the 1368 has the same block that the 1242? Because if it's the same I'm sure that i can put this one in the panda 4x4. Also, i don't know exactly in which year and in which model can I find this engine. Don't you have documents concerning specifications and different car in which were put fiat engine (historic) or something like that? I have the opportunity to buy a uno turbo 1400 cc engine but I'm not sure that this motor is a straigth swap or even if it enters in the space which is provided. Does it have the same block that the 1242? Thank you a lot.... NLK

Ho, I've forgotten something. Which engine 1242 have you used? 1242 MPI 8v, 16v or SPI . And do you know of it's exactly the same block (for straight swap concerning adaptation on the gearbox). Sorry for those questions, but do you remeber if your friend has had problem with his gearbox or transmission after the swap? Last one, I've read that the 1400 cc turbo of punto mk1 is derived from uno turbo, so do you think the adaption of the engine on the gear box has change? Thanks bye

Hi,
ok it seems that its not possible to fit the 1400 cc turbo from uno in the panda 4x4 because the engine doesn't fit the gearbox.(it's not a fire engine). So i have done research and found out the 1.4 turbo of the punto gt (130bhp) wich block is different. Does somebody know if in this case the engine bolts on the geabox directly and if the mounts are similar?
thanks

The 1242cc block and the 1368cc block are identical other than the bigger bore. The 1368cc block has got 72mm bore and the 1242 70.8mm.
The 1368 will fit the Panda.
My freind is currently running a twin choke carb on a SPI head that is ported and flowed. The 4x4 gearbox takes his abuse for a couple of years now.

The engine is pretty much the same layout in terms of coolant hoses. No need for another radiator.
