If 1242cc pistons are used with a 1368cc crank in a 1242cc block what would the CC be and would this be more or less stable than a standard 1368 as the block would be thicker between cylinders?

MY goodness what a question, too technical for me i'm afriad.
I would say 1242, but that would be a guess!
Fire it at oldschool!

Larger bore and shorter stroke being what we want, not the other way round... Is that what you're trying to say?

1323cc, so what effect would this have on the power output and drivability? Would this take it closer to a race engine principal, how would it rev and where would the power band go? Would compression remain the same? Could the stock injectors take up the slack?
It would be a very easy modification and I doubt the cost new from FIAT would be all that expensive, under £400?
Why didnt fiat do this to start with? Instead of the 1368? There must be a flaw in it somewhere.
Regards
James

Hiya James, People talk of square engines like the 1108 were the bore and stroke are equal (meaning it can rev well), the stroke being shorter means it can rev VERY well like in f1. My silly suggestion is the oppersite meaning it will rev badly compaired to the above, the 1242 is already a long stroke as is the 1368, using the smaller pistons will just make it worse. Also the larger bore is what fiat can get the most out of the engine (not forgetting they are required to leave space for it to be honed etc so there will be a piston set available from fiat upto 0.5mm larger normally). Its a silly idea, and tbh I am embarressed I said it out loud

It is not as bad as you might think. The engine would be very torquey. But it couldn't rev as high as the 1368s or the 1242s do.

it is silly, I dont like diesel power curves.

I was reading about the gallardo last night and that has a 80ish mm bore and a 90ish mm stroke?
I suppose its different being a V engine though

Still not as bad as 72mm bore/84mm stroke.

Still not as bad as 72mm bore/84mm stroke. Bore × stroke, 82.50mm × 92.80mm so 2mm less stroke deficite from my suggestion
