As you are mostly aware, I have the 16v sei conversion. This morning when I went to start it first thing it took a lot of turning over from the engine to get it started, after this it was fine. After driving about 40 miles on it I nearly home and the car felt like it went onto 3 cylinders or even less! I coasted into a layby where i sat and she wouldn't start. If i put my foot to the ground on accelerator and then turned her over i may eventually get 1000rpm but with the most hideous backfire and loud BANG from the exhuast every other second. My dad towed it home, i left it for half an hour, she then started with a little persuasion and I drive her into the garage fine The engine has a misfire anyway due to not having the exhaust sorted out and running on one lambda, but this surely must be a different problem? Any ideas! Suffice to say my dad was not happy (not about the tow but about the problems with this car!) he even talked about getting me something else which i wasn't really interested in Basically I need this car properly sorted - and soon.

Well last night I reset ECU. Put some fuel in the tank And she did 60 miles today! So fingers crossed I think it was just dirty fuel as the car was nearly empty when she stopped.

Read the plugs for clues...
Have you sorted the ICV yet, sounds like the engine is coking up...

well i cleaned out the entire t/b inc icv with brake cleaner and brushes and no such difference. Plugs are pretty black TBH!
I'm not buying new ones til the fuelling is sorted though as i'll ruin another set!

black is from overfueling/under igniting.
consider either checking the timing of the engine, switch to a hotter plug or just run some redex incase it was only coking while it wasnt mapped.

Plugs were changed since mapping, so its post mapping related.
I would say from the lambda issue it is just badly overfuelling at a guess??
When it is all sorted, new plugs will naturally go in, prob ngk and some magnecor leads.
