Ok chaps, i hope someone can shed some light for me please. The car has started to use a fair amount of oil, i first thought it was just "burning" it off, and that it may be a problem with the valve stem oil seals. However, the car is throwing neat oil out of the exhaust, and is visible all up the rear of the car. I put my hand inside the tail pipe earlier and there was literally a pool of fresh oil inside. So.... am i right in thinking that there is problem with the piston rings/a problem with the bore? The car in question is a mk2 punto, 2000, with 91,000 on the clock. Thank you in advance for any help

Hi keith as posted on the other forum, more history is required to diagnose:
"If your car has a loss in power from reduced compression it would be this however the amount of oil used would be small and would be burnt normally.
Be honest with the information you give, fire engines are known to go over 300,000kilometers with no problems when serviced properly. What have you done wrong?
By blow would only happen if you didnt change the oil, oil seals could be from chopping and changing from mineral, semi and fully synth oil, using cheap oil...
What have you done wrong so we know how to fix it."
